Illuminance is a measure of the amount of light that shines on a given unit of area of an object’s surface. A lux (lx) is the SI unit of illuminance and luminous emittance, measuring luminous flux per unit area. One lux is equal to one lumen per square meter: 1 lx = 1 lm/m² = 1 cd·sr·m⁻². This value depends on the human perception of brightness for light of different wavelengths, corresponding to different color. (For a conversion of luminance or brightness units you may use the Luminance-Converter)

*** The conversion of illumination to Watt and vice versa is defined only for monochromatic light of a frequency of 540·1012Hz corresponding to about 555 nm. At all other wavelengths you would get wrong results.

How to Use:
Type the value to convert into the field, behind which you find the unit. Click on any empty space in the window or on the “calculate” button. The converted result will be shown in the other fields. You can use the “reset” button to reset the process.
